Being Connected

I probably speak for most of us when I say that we, in today’s society, have become totally dependent on our cell phones.  However, many of us can remember when we’d actually go places without any phone connection and survive perfectly fine.  If we needed to make a call, we’d find a pay phone.  If we needed to be available to friends or family we’d call from a home phone. Now things are much different.  Now we keep our cell phones in our back pocket, on the dash of our car, or in our purse every minute.  Some people are talking or texting on their phones while they walk or even drive!  I admit that I have actually turned around and gone back home when I realized I didn’t have my phone with me.

Our phones have become a sort of “security blanket” and that isn’t all bad. When I am driving alone, I have the assurance that I can get help quickly if I am lost or in an accident.  We are able to get addresses and directions to places we are going; we can even get the number of miles away.  In the event of an emergency or crime, we can summon help quickly.  When we want to find information on any subject, our phones provide it in a moment’s time.  Do you remember the encyclopedias we had for this sort of thing?  Our phones are a wonderful part of our lives when they are used properly and when they are charged and working as they should.

Recently, my cell phone became totally useless and I felt like a “fish out of water”.  I could not make calls; some of my important icons were hibernating so I couldn’t text or receive email.  I even had a “voice” trying to help me but the instructions were not useful and the volume was too low; even the screen resolution was fading.  I have a land line at home, but I had no phonebook or phone numbers.  I couldn’t remember the numbers of even my closest friends.  I was not receiving any calls; I had an appointment but I didn’t know the address.  I took my phone to two phone stores for help but they only gave me a number to call for assistance and a warning that I could lose all the information and photos on my phone.  Finally, a friend took my phone to a “Youbreakit/Wefixit” place and it was literally seconds for the professional to get me back in business.  It was such a comfort to get everything restored!  I felt like I had a new phone.  At that moment I realized how important my phone is in my life.

My relationship with God is similar to a properly working cell phone.  Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever”.  He never changes what he says and what He will do for us.  Malachi 3:6, “I, the Lord do not change”.  When we stay close to the Lord, He casts out darkness and replaces it with His brightness.  He will transform our lives and make us completely new creatures.  II Corinthians 3:18, “And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His likeness with ever increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit”.  II Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old is gone, the new has become”.  God is always ready to hear my prayers and answer when I pray according to His will for my life.  I can always communicate with God.  He is always available.  He restores us.  Psalm 23: 1, 2 “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.  He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside still waters, He restores my soul”.

Dear Lord, Thank you for the precious gift you give to me of Your presence.  You are always ready to hear my cries of unrest and give me Your peace.  You are always there for me.  In Hebrews 13:5 You say, ”Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you”.  I praise You for who You are.  You, Holy God, will never disconnect from me.

I’ve missed your writings on line. Boy this is the true
about our cell phones. So much I don’t know how to do
but I also get upset with myself when I forget it.
    Thanks so much! God Bless

Pam, how did we ever get along without a cell phone? I too have turned around and gone back home when I forgot my cell phone. Thankfully, our God is much more worthy than our cell phones and we never get a busy signal when we call upon him.

    Thanks for sharing!
