Technology is an unbelievable asset to our lives! It absolutely amazes me (and also scares me a little) as I continue to learn what modern technology knows about me personally! For starters, I know my Smart Phone is WAY smarter than me! It is an amazing tool of information. We no longer have need of public phone booths, telephone books; newspapers or maps. Not only will my phone lead me to an address, it will talk to me along the way and even tell me when I’ve arrived on my left or on my right! It’s incredible to think that we can take pictures without using film, and then immediately send those miles away, for friends to see. We can bank and deposit checks from our phones. We can instantly communicate activities through social media. We can have a teleconference with our doctor right from our sick beds. Most of us have experienced “zoom” Bible studies or meetings. Our children have school classes via zoom. Thankfully, we are able to worship at home with online church services when we are unable to attend in person. Our private information is totally public with the click of a few letters on the keyboard. Addresses, phone numbers, names of spouses (current and past) and children’s names are readily available. It doesn’t take much effort to discover medical and/or insurance information; places of employment, etc.
I was fortunate to purchase a new car in 2020. I’m still surprised at what this vehicle can do. For example, it automatically can pick up on the speed limit anywhere I drive. It tells me with a beep and vibration when I drift across the center line or side of the road boundary. It tells me the names of the tunes my radio is playing; it syncs the temperature for the front seat passengers. Last week, it told me that my front right tire was low on air. Later Nissan itself texted me that I should check the air in all four tires! It tells me when I’m too close to merge or park or backup. I definitely feel that Big Brother is watching, and for the most part that is a good thing! I don’t even have a key to start the ignition or pop the trunk, but that makes it exceedingly easy to leave the motor running when stopped! This is not always a good thing. Just today I learned about a tragic death and serious injury of a friend’s two family members from carbon monoxide poisoning – all because the car was accidentally left running in a closed garage. I admit that I personally have unknowingly left my car running two or three times while eating out or making quick stops. Fortunately, no injuries occurred!
In much the same way I’ve just described, God knows all about us, too.
The first thing I thought of was that God knows how many hairs there are on my head! He says in:
– Matthew 10:30 “that even the hairs on our heads are numbered”.
– Psalm 139:1 -24 “You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up. You discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, You know it altogether. You hem me in, behind and before and lay your hand upon me”.
– John 10:14, 15 – “I am the Good Shepherd. I know my own and my own know me….and I lay down my life for the sheep.
– I Corinthians 8:3 – “But if anyone loves God, he is known by God”.
– Jeremiah 12:3 – “But you, O Lord, know me; you test my heart toward you.
– I Samuel 16:7 – “For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart”.
– Hebrews 4:13 – “And no creature is hidden from His sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account”.
– Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope”.
– I John 3:20 – “God is greater than our heart, for He knows everything”.
– Nahum 1:7 – “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; He knows those who take refuge in Him”.
– Exodus 33:17 – “And the Lord said to Moses, “This very thing that you have spoken I will do, for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name”.
-Psalm 31:15 – “But I trust in You, O Lord; I say, You are my God, My times are in Your hands”.
These verses give me great comfort as I navigate through this life. God is with me. I will not be afraid. Even death draws me closer to the God I love and serve now. I hope these verses comfort you, as well.
Pam, thank you for the encouraging verses. I especially like Jeremiah 29:11 and I Corinthians 8:3. With my constantly crazy busy life, I frequently need reminders like these.
Yes, we all need God’s timely reminders of his personal relationship to us. What a wonderful thing!
Pam thank you for such comforting words, I refer back to the verses you gave us to refer to when we need a comfort throughout the day.
Thank you, Jean. You are an encouragement to ME!
