Reflections

Let’s reflect, (giving serious thought or consideration), on the word reflection, (the throwing back by a body or surface of light without absorbing it).  I have a broken red reflector at the end of my driveway, there to assist in seeing the driveway entrance when it’s dark outside.  I have thought that I should replace it, but I haven’t taken the time yet to do it.  Even though it is not circular any longer, it still partly does its job.

One day last week as I was walking down the hallway, I thought that I had left the light on in the bathroom.  But on closer inspection, I realized that the sunshine on the red leaves of the sugar maple tree just outside the window was causing the beautiful appearance of a bright light shining into the room.  It was stunning!

I started “reflecting” – no pun intended – on the thought that this is a wonderful analogy to what our lives, as Christians, should look like.  We should reflect the love, grace and peace of Christ as we interact with our friends.  Though flawed and broken, God can still use our lives to draw others to Himself.  We might be the only “Jesus” someone sees.  Does my life reflect Him in a lovely and compelling way?

Haven’t the bright fall colors of the trees been amazing this year?  I can hardly drive by a glorious tree without stopping to take a picture.  I love to see the mirror image of fall trees in bright red and orange colors or majestic mountains reflected exactly into a body of water, too.  In the same way, I hope others see Christ in me.  II Corinthians 3:17-18 says “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of Lord is, there is freedom.  And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, we are being transformed into His likeness with everlasting glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit”.  The metamorphosis is not easy and may take time, but the reflection of the Lord in us, is beautiful and desirable.  I think today is a good day to check on my reflection!  How about you?
