Things Hidden

Central Ohio received about 3”of beautiful and drifting snow overnight last Saturday.  I love snow, even though I do not like to drive in it.  I especially enjoy the beauty of snow when it clings to the side of trees or light posts or old well pumps.  I read a quote recently that said “If you cannot find the joy in a snowfall, you miss a day of joy and you still have the snow”.  So true!

But the one problem I do have with snow is my 400’ driveway and no snowplow.  My husband used to drive his truck back and forth a few times to make a path, but now I don’t have that option.  A funny thing happened on Sunday – I received a USPS package which was most unusual!  The postman was not my regular guy and I didn’t need to see him to know that he must have been a rookie.  When I looked out my front door, I saw that he had parked his postal truck three-fourths of the way into my front yard.  I realized later that he had totally missed the entrance to my driveway by the mailbox and instead had entered my yard far to the right and through the ditch.  He also missed the curve that would have led him to the garage, which I would have thought would be a clue to where he should head.  Oh well.

In all fairness, the driveway is curvy and it was totally hidden by the snow.  There was no way the postman could see my driveway and where to head his truck, so I really couldn’t blame his blunder.  This event, though, makes me remember that nothing is hidden from God.  Hebrews 4:13 says, “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight.  Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account”.   Charles Swindoll said, “God knows our complexities and quirks; He ‘gets’ us better than our closest friends.  Best of all, He cares”.

What a comfort it is to know that God walks with us, His children, through the day; His Spirit is our guide and comfort!  Sometimes we are able to hide our faults and sins from other people, but we cannot hide from God.  He is aware and we must quickly seek His forgiveness for disobeying.  So much better to “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.  For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God” Colossians 3:3.  Psalm 119:11 says, “I have hidden Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You”.  “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer” Psalm 19:14.

By Monday morning and additional snowfall through the night, my driveway was still concealed.  About noon, I looked out of my window and saw that my neighbor, Theo, who mows for me, was in my driveway plowing the snow.  He had seen the postman’s tire tracks in my yard, and was kindly taking it upon himself to clear my drive.  Thank you, Lord, for providing for me even with snow removal.  I am blessed that You are aware of all my needs!

  1. Can I make a suggestion? I believe youve obtained something good here. But what should you added a pair links to a page that backs up what youre saying? Or possibly you could give us one thing to look at, one thing that may connect what youre saying to one thing tangible? Only a suggestion. Anyway, in my language, there arent much good source like this.
